How much does size matter? That’s the question that Patrick Moote looks to answer after going through the most humiliating experience of his life. Moore’s marriage proposal to his girlfriend, which was at a UCLA basketball game and shown on the Jumbotron, ended with a no and her walking out on him. Of course, the failed proposal went viral, reaching 10,000,000 YouTube views in only four days. Her reason? Well his penis was too small. What comes next is a man’s journey to see just how much penis size matters across the globe and how to fix this problem of being too small. While Patrick may not have been gifted with a large penis, he’s certainly has pretty big balls to discuss his problem while attempting to find a solution.
Moote’s a stand-up comedian who’s most well-known role has probably been in a How I Met Your Mother episode, until his marriage proposal video went viral. Throughout his life, he’s had several girlfriends, a steady sex life, and it wasn’t until this rejection he decided to go out and explore different remedies. While he’s known of his tiny penis, it didn’t seem to be that big of a deal to him until his rejection.
He takes to the street asking people what their thoughts are when it comes to penis size. Most of the answers he receives are pretty sympathetic, but there were a few cases where the women were either laughing or trying to restrain their laughter. Patrick then questions his ex-girlfriends and when that doesn’t go as well as he planned, he turns to the professionals. When he finds out from a medical professional that his penis is low normal (or in his mind, small), that’s when his obsession for penis enlargement grows.
Patrick becomes a pill popper, a penis pumper, and a stroker all in an attempt to gain a half of an inch here and there. After discovering these remedies just aren’t working, he travels across the world to Germany, Korea, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea. Throughout his journey, we see Patrick as insecure, but nice, charming, and sweet. He quizzes many women (and some men) about their own preferences. The majority of them say what happened to him was wrong and that size shouldn’t matter that much. Moote’s vulnerability is what makes this such an interesting and enjoyable watch.
That being said, there are moments where things get a little bit ridiculous, though his obsession brings heartfelt moments. I was okay with seeing his dilemma when it came to sticking a needle in his penis since he was genuine in that moment (as well as terrified). When he goes off in the more personal segments, questioning why he went around the world and even made the film in the first place, it drags the film down.
Unhung Hero seems to struggle with its tone from time to time, but it’s almost like Patrick Moote: He’s imperfect and this is an imperfect film. Moote is genuine and likeable, which is probably the most important thing (not just for the film but probably for his own life as well). At the end, Moote seems to be comfortable with himself again, and getting to see that is truly a pleasure.
Happy you said some women on the street were barely restrainIng their laughter. I was one of them! When asked how I would react if a guy had a really REALLY small penis, no penis at all, I said “You mean… like a vagina?” You’re welcome.
